The villagers gathered behind a line of Purple Dragon Knights and cheered as the companions rode along the muddy track, their's and the horses' breath steaming in the cold morning. Two new faces were now amongst them, but it did nothing to hide the void left behind by Virani. Uthlorad and Wodahs rode with them for a while, until the castle was about to disapear from view. Uthlorad turned in his saddle and regarded the companions. "You will always have my eternal gratitude and I shall be sure that The Regent hears of your deeds... and of Virani's sacrifice." He took a deep breath of the crisp Autumn morning air and smiled at the newly healed lands, now teased with the early morning frost. Uthlorad embraced his daughter one last time, they exchanged a few words, unheard by the others. Wodahs bowed stiffly in his saddle "Promise you'll come back soon" he said with only a hint of fear. They watched the companions from a hill top until the very last moment.
DM NOTE: at some point I need you to tell me what route you'll be taking from Blackfen so I can write up the next chapter!

Riding his new stone-fleshed steed, Lyri tried to avoid shifting his weight too often, the rough surface that made up the skin of the creature grating slightly on his backside. He leant forwards to pet its head, admiring the craftsmanship on display. His own breathe threw steam up into the morning air, but the horse gave no such visual. It must be breathing to some extend though, for as he felt it's chest expand and retract under his legs a sound like gravel rolling downhill emitted from its nostrils.
Seraphina's presence high above him gave him a good insight into the amount of smallfolk (a reference he was attempting to overlook) and Knights that had turned out to see his new friends away.
With very little experience in the saddle, and in fact actually missing a saddle, he felt very out of place sat so high from the ground. Anxiously looking ahead to where the plains opened out in front of them he nervously contemplated this relaxed regal pace turning into a gallop. "If it comes to it, I can always just fly up onto someone else's ride, I'm sure they won't mind" he thought to himself.
Attempting to maintain a respectful appearance to the crowds, he sat quietly with his hands in his lap, the reins held magically aloft in front of him roughly guiding the beast. As they progressed down the line his thoughts turned to naming the creature, his natural, naive smile plastering his face as he considered names from many different languages.

*sitting on Kepesk's broad back completely at ease, she gives a brief dip of the head to Wodahs and Uthlorad.*
"Thank you for your hospitality, I do think this beautiful morning shows how much Virani cared about the world and those in it *smiles, but her eyes still show great sadness*. Take care and hopefully our paths will meet again in the not to distant future.
Yes Kal, let's get to red springs *after being stabled for a period, both Ryna and Kepesk show signs of wanting a good run, ruffles Kepesk's mane and whispers me to. With that she rises up in the saddle and urges her forward as Kepesk breaks into a full run. With Ryna loping along side and the smaller figure of Bulwi bounding around between them all*

Wren absently stroked her mare on the neck whilst she stared at the large lump on the ground some distance away. She had fought a dragon...well at least a thing of similar size and power anyway. She could hardly credit it coming out of the man Vandyre and would have called it nonsense if she had not seen it for herself. It had taken a great deal of will for her not to flee from the creature and a knot of shame still curled in her belly at the reminder of how her fear had almost overcome her.
She did not know why but the mere thought of running in fear made her feel sick to her stomach. She was glad beyond measure that she had stood her ground and showed none of her fear on her face. It helped that the creature and it's minions had clearly been connected with the demon who had kept her prisoner. Reminding herself of that had helped her keep her focus.
She shifted and winced as the movement reminded her of her wounds. She bled from numerous wounds and felt stabbing pains in her side when she breathed, broken ribs no doubt, she remembered her words to Katalina.
"Only a fool refuses aid when they clearly needed it." Perhaps the same could be said for not asking for it when it was needed? She thought she probably was a fool and yet could not bring herself to ask for aid. She already felt a debt to these people and the thought of needing anothers aid galled her.
Sighing heavily she leaned back against the mare glad of the horses solid presence.

*looking her companions, all of them wounded and tired herself included*
*growls* "I am getting tired of people messing around and twisting Dragons, first dragon spawn *flashes of anger cross her face* and now this! I am really starting to get upset now.
*taking a few deep breathes and trying to calm herself* I think even if it puts us a little back, resting up for a day or maybe 2 before we move on would be a wise choice, what do you think?"

It would be wise to await for Uthlorad to arrive and give the survivor chance to gather his wits and hopefully remember some important details. I feel sorry that we had to kill the others as they were clearly being controlled.

In contradiction to his normal joviality Lyri was absent-mindedly quiet as he swayed gently with the motion of his destrier. Under his robes he fervently wrung his hands in an attempt to halt their nervous trembling. To his rear Seraphina could still spot the site of his first ever fight as she flew low above him in an offering of companionship, the twisted dragon largely dissected to the far side of a hill.
“All of the years in which I have studied, all of the tomes I have combed through, it wasn’t with the intention of violence. Was it Petal?” he communicated to the hawk, his thoughts comfortably dividing between his own mind and hers. Before an answer was forthcoming, he continued, “I can’t believe how it all just… happened. One minute you told me about the purple knights and the next I was peppered with arrows.” and reached his magical hand down to comfort the piercing wound in his right calf.
“And I never thought it would be such a mess, Kat and her friends make it look so smooth but I was fumbling for components and I missed half of what happened. But the rush!” he emphasised, eyes growing excitable at the memory, “you felt it too right? I always thought I’d defend myself when needed, but the energy that coursed through my fingers! I never would have believed that I could enjoy it.”

Seraphina glided down and landed atop the mount's head. She cocked her head quizzically to one side and blinked. Lyri felt a surge of guilt from his familiar. "I hunt, I kill for food. But... I..." She fumbled for the right words, Lyri could feel her animal nature clouding her magically enhanced intelligence, as if trying to claim her mind back. "I find it easy to feel superior to my meals. After all, they are so small and I am so big and sharp. The feeling of power is almost as powerful as the taste of blood in my mouth... the tearing of flesh and crunching of tiny bones... They are too easy to kill". She looked to the others as if they might hear her even though her voice could only be heard by her master and friend. "I sometimes am confused as to whether it is the thrill of the hunt that I enjoy... Or the killing".

*Looks sadly at the confused man tied up*
"Yes they were controlled and used, I hate the thought of losing yourself in such a way. *flash back come unbidden* I remember trying to put an arrow through Azrael's head *shudders*

"Azrael was a friend?" Seraphina tilted her head to the side. "Does that mean it is permissable to kill people who are not your friends?"

"He was and is a very dear friend, he taught me about dwarfs and how to speak their language. We had many adventures together *chuckle*
As to your question, *sighs* I am still trying to find answers myself. If someone attacks you or is harming others say some innocent villagers, I would retaliate swiftly. However it is wise not to lose sight of the value of every life or should I say never let taking a life become as easy as breathing and disregarded without thought. Does that help? I have listened and seen to Lyri, I saw the pull of the power he can bring to bare"

"I think so... though it is alright to kill to eat? I have no choice, I do not have teeth" She demonstrated how a hawk with awakened intelligence laughs - a strange, somewhat discomforting guttural rattle, somewhere between a low chirp, a screech and a growl. Lyri's familiar hopped closer to Katalina, taking a perch upon Kepesk's head. She turned to check that Lyri was out of ear shot and whispered. "I am worried about him. He used to enjoy books but that was before he found his ability to kill with some words and a few bits and bobs".

"yes it is, we have to eat and we are both meat eaters *flashes her fangs with a slight grin, then her face turns serious* Verani spoke with me many times about the pull of arcane powers she commanded. Just keep and aye on him, I think he will be well. From what I can make out, he has jumped from the dessert straight into the lava pool and is facing a new reality. I had a similar jump when I first left the Airie on my own, the world showed me so much I wasn't prepared for and some cruel truths"

*Kalon considers what Kat has said*
"The life in the wildness seems so much simpler than the dirty and corrupt cities. I hope you learn about these cruel truths Kat but do not fall into them"
