The Platinum Manacles of The Drake
These sturdy and heavy mastercraft manacles are forged of adamantine which seems to have a multicolored sheen to it when held in a certain light, like oil upon water. When exposed to great heat, draconic runes of power can be seen in the metal and on the chain. There is no seem and no apparent lock.
Discani “The Great Drake” Ortoli (a paladin of Torm) built a great keep in 802DR and lived there, protecting the locals, until 1260DR when he was slain when on a quest in The Wealdath. Discani got his name by slaying many dragons that would hunt the lands between the Cloud Peaks and The Wealdath and it is rumoured that he consorted with metallic dragons eventually earning their trust and even worshipping Bahamut alongside his own patron, Torm.
A great priest of Bahamut, rumoured to be a gold dragon, visited Discani in early 903DR with omens of a great rage to fall upon the realms during the year of Wild Dragons and that all allies of the good dragons are to prepare. The priest spoke of a great tower of platinum being built beyond the spine of the world where a magical sleep would protect the innocents from the rampage of metallic dragons. The priest and Discani toiled to create these manacles which combine the power of dimensional shackles, greater teleport and other powers that could trap any good dragon that succumbed to the rage or refused to enter the platinum tower.
As the priest wove his spells, Discani gathered the items needed to create this minor artefact – the manacles were forged of finest adamantine mined from the well of dragons and quenched in the blood of each of the metallic dragons in turn.
They appear as normal masterwork manacles of adamantine but when hurled at a target (not necessarily a dragon) they change size and bind the creature, teleport the prisoner to the great dungeon beneath Drake’s Peak and effects them with an anti magic effect. The manacles will not work on the other planes as the teleport that transports the target to the dungeon will not function.
When the Drake was killed in 1260DR, the manacles remained unused and undiscovered in his secret dungeon as his castle fell to ruin thanks to the machionations of his wife, revealed to be a Mallyth.
